Mermaid Cordelia

Shello Friends! Meet Mermaid Cordelia! Mermaid/ Merrow Cordelia's name means Pearl of the Sea! She gets her name from her mer-friends across the coast of Ireland, because of her love of pearls! But her human friends always call her Gills! Mermaid Cordelia is a great traveler and has traveled the lakes, rivers, and seas of Europe! She prefers cold water because it reminds her of her home! She is a salt water Mermaid from Dublin Bay!

Cordelia's tail is dark purple and blue so that she blends into the dark waters of the Dublin Coast but also, so she warns other fish that she is not to be messed with. The blue in her tail glows in the deep sea like an angler fish!  Gill's favorite animal is an axolotl, she met an albino axolotl in Mexico named phantasma and every year she takes a holiday to visit her new friend. She loves blowing bubble kisses and can't wait to explore Pennsylvania as she meets all of her new friends!

How to Hire a Mermaid!

1) Book with C&C for a Mermaid party! These parties have different rates than our other character appearances, due to the cost of costumes and maintenance, the loss of mobility while in the tail, the safety risks, and the physically taxing aspects of professional mermaid-ing!

2) Prepare! Please prepare an area where the mermaid can get ready and prepare for the party, It is always helpful to allow the mermaid to get acclimated to the pool and get in her tail while children are entertained elsewhere. Mermaiding is amazing but also dangerous so allowing the actor and the assistant to get into the tail and get acclimated to the conditions while kids are occupied elsewhere is super important.

3) How can you help facilitate the mermaid? Please make sure all children are aware that while the mermaid is so excited to splash around and have fun, they should not initiate any contact with the mermaid without express permission. Especially while in the water. This means no tugging on her tail, hair, or her fins! This is both a safety risk as well a risk of breaking the magic!

4) Distracting the assistant. The assistant is there for the safety of everyone involved but especially the mermaid, they are there to make sure that accidents in the water don't result in injury or death. While the mermaid is in the water, they will be taking pictures and keeping an eagle eye on the mermaid. Please do not distract them. This is for the safety of everyone involved. Once the mermaid is out of the water, feel free to talk, get information, or ask questions. Only emergencies should be brought to the attention of the Mer-sistant while the mermaid is actively diving.

5) For Swimming Mermaid Parties: Client must provide the pool, pool must be inground for ease of entrance and exit. Above-ground pools will need assistance in and out where children are out of sight. Application may be denied, and pictures of the pool will be required at booking.

6) How else can I help? We love this question! The mermaids will often bring their own water bottles but as performing is a rigorous exercise, it is always nice to have a few extra water bottles on hand for the mermaid and her mer-sistant. Please make sure the kids are prepped and know the safety information below.

7) In case of emergency, a mermaid may rapid release her tail, this includes kicking one heel out of the fin mechanism and kicking off of the tail, mermaids will do their best to avoid situations where this is necessary, but accidents happen. Medical issues, fins getting stuck, kids roughhousing, and other instances may cause a mermaid to rapid release. Mermaids will wear themed tights or bathing suits underneath their tails in order to explain away what happened to kids. If you see a mermaid rapid release or hear the mermaid's safe word said by her or her assistant, please follow the below emergency protocol.

Emergency Protocol

All information is reiterated in the booking contract and to the client before booking as well as before the party begins.

1)Alert other adults immediately, and have able-bodied adults stand by and assist the mermaid at the instruction of the mer-sistant. Other adults should remove all children from the pool and pool area.

2) 911 should be called immediately if the mermaid is unresponsive.

3) Adults assisting the Mermaid should facilitate her with guidance from the mer-sistant. Anyone who is trained in CPR or knows CPR should stand by.

4)Adults caring for children, should they ask questions, and answer them according to the criteria supplied to them at the beginning of the party, also listed below.

5) Depending on the mermaid's condition the performance part of the party will be terminated. If she is able to continue to perform, she will continue the rest of the party outside of the pool, she will also answer all the questions the kids have for her. At that time, she will move on to games and sing-alongs. The time taken from the party due to the incident will be made up. If the Mermaid chooses not to continue her performance, she will excuse herself, and payment for time lost will be repaid (Not including travel time, prep time, and performer pay. Only including the pay for time.)
